Major or Commercial Truck Accidents

When it comes to truck accidents, size matters. Large truck accidents can be especially complex because of a number of factors*:

  • the potentially catastrophic damage (number of injured parties or amount of property damage) that can be caused by a large-sized truck
  • the type and weight of the cargo being transported by the truck
  • the possibly hazardous nature of the cargo being transported
  • where the truck was traveling, i.e., interstate (across state lines) vs. intrastate (within the state)
  • if a death resulted from the accident
  • how long after the accident a claim is initiated

*This list is non-exhaustive.

The causes of these major accidents may vary from driver error, improper loading techniques, faulty equipment, and other forms of negligence involving operating these large vehicles. Because of the inherent risks involved in operating big rigs, including the high risk of fatality and extensive property damage, drivers of these vehicles must adhere to a variety of regulations designed to promote and ensure the safe operation of these large trucks.

Examples of large or commercial trucks include:

  • 18-wheelers (semi-trucks)/mack trucks
  • Garbage/dump trucks
  • Cement trucks
  • Postal/delivery trucks
  • Flatbed trucks
  • Tractor trailers
  • Tanker trucks
